GUIDELINES REGARDING TRASH CANS AND YARD DEBRIS CONTAINERS
Posted on Aug 16th, 2017

Unfortunately, it has been brought to our attention that some homeowners are putting their trash at the curb too far in advance of their trash pick up day. Please be mindful of the guidelines.

Additionally, we have had complaints of dog walkers and others throwing loose trash, disposed food, and dog waste into trash and recycle bins that are not their own. Please do not do this. These disposals have happened after pick up has occurred leaving the owners of these bins to deal with the smell of trash that is not their own.

Please see the FMEHA ACC Guidelines and County Rules regarding trash at the curb.

From FMEHA ACC Guidelines:
TRASH CANS AND YARD DEBRIS CONTAINERS

In accordance with the Declaration, trash cans and yard debris containers shall not be put at curbside earlier than the evening prior to the scheduled pickup day and must be removed from curbside on the evening of the pickup day.  This includes trash in plastic trash bags.
On non-scheduled pickup days, trash cans and yard debris containers must be shielded or screened from view (i.e., the trash cans or yard debris containers must not be visible to someone standing on ground level outside the property).

YARD AND LAWN DEBRIS DUMPING
Storage or dumping of yard debris, including leaves, on common areas is prohibited.

From Fairfax County Department of Code Compliance:
PROPERTY MAINTENANCE - TRASH
Trash bags may only be put out at the curb 12 hours before they are picked up, but trash cans and recycling bins may be put out at the curb 24 hours before pickup. However, many homeowners associations have stricter rules about when trash can be put out at the curb. Trash companies do not normally pick up large, bulky items, such as mattresses, furniture or fallen trees. You can ask your trash company to pick up these kinds of items for an extra fee. It is a homeowner’s responsibility to make sure these items are picked up.

If trash is left at the curb for more than 10 days, call the Health Department at 703-246-2300, TTY 711. The county will investigate the complaint and collect the trash if the property owner does not comply with directives to remove it. http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/code/
