How to Keep Foxes Out of Your Yard

Foxes are beautiful animals and are often seen in our Fox Mill Estates neighborhood.  However, foxes have lost almost all their fear of humans and now associate them with food. It is this lack of fear that foxes have that can cause them to be bold enough to come into our yards. If you notice any animal that seems sickly or diseased, please call animal control.

What to report and how to make a report:
Call the Fairfax County Police non-emergency dispatch number at 703-691-2131 to report:
Dog bites
Animal cruelty or neglect
Sick or injured wildlife
Human exposure/encounters with potentially rabid wildlife

If you have a fox problem, try a few of these suggestions to discourage them:
Keep any food items such as pet food out of the yard. This will discourage the foxes and/or mice that foxes eat.
Put in a fence. However, a fence is not a foolproof way to keep the foxes out if they really want to eat something in your yard.
Scare foxes away with keeping large dogs in your yard or using a motion activated sprinkler system that will spray them when they come near.
Buy a fox repellent that is a synthetic chemical or a natural predator scent.
Hire a professional pest removal expert to do it for you.
