Unfortunately, a 2016 VDOT traffic signal study concluded that the safety situation is getting worse. On top of that, there are several other development projects in the works. This includes construction of a walkway on the north side of Fox Mill Road that will likely increase pedestrian traffic, a proposal to widen Fox Mill Road to four lanes, and another idea to connect Pinecrest to Glade, which would only bring more traffic to the neighborhood.

At the September FMEHA Board meeting, a new task force was officially created to advocate for: 1) immediate traffic control measures at Fox Mill and Pinecrest Roads that can increase safety, and 2) a long-term plan for Fox Mill Road that will address future development and the larger, structural issues that lead to many accidents at that intersection. That task force will work with other concerned organizations and citizens who have already created an online petition and website at

The Hunter Mill District Transportation Advisory Council Meeting took place on September 27th at the North County Governmental Center located at 1801 Cameron Glen Drive in Reston.  The Advisory Council provided updates on various transportation projects within the District and held an open floor to hear transportation related issues from the community.
